October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and is dedicated to increase awareness of breast cancer, early detection, and treatment. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide with approximately 1.38 million new cases of breast cancer and 458,000 deaths each year.
As part of our TIC Cares program, the staff at The Insurance Center get together to support those affected by breast cancer by preparing cancer care bags for those in treatment. These bags are lovingly packed with items that will help bring comfort to those in treatment and delivered to the Journey of Hope Cancer Care Center.
In addition to cancer care bags, the agency is also a proud supporter of local breast cancer fundraising events. This year we are proud to sponsor the 12th Annual Breast Cancer Motorcycle Ride. This mission-based event helps to support breast cancer research and funding and has raised nearly $100,000 to help families in the Craven Jones and Pamlico areas. Our very own Amy Heidt is an avid supporter of this event and will participate in the upcoming ride on October 24th at the Harley Davidson of New Bern Dealership.
If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s a powerful reminder that we are all in this together. We can all do our part to help raise breast cancer awareness and help support those affected by this disease. If you are interested in donating items for the cancer care bags or showing your support for The Journey of Hope Cancer Care Center, please contact The Insurance Center of New Bern at (252-637-4173) for more information.
